South African Post Office Resumes Sassa Grant Payments

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes more than 20 million social grants every month. Around 18 million of these grants are permanent and are distributed during the first week of every new month.

The Post Bank resumed services on Monday 7 November 2022. The resumption of services came after the system glitches that impacted grant payments were resolved.

These permanent grants include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and the Care Dependency grant.

Many of the people who benefit from permanent Sassa grants collect them at a South African Post Office (SAPO) branch through the Post Bank service.

However, Sassa advised these permanent grant recipients to make alternative arrangements to collect their money during the first week of November 2022. This came as the Post Bank encountered system glitches, which meant they could not distribute grants to recipients.
