SANC

The South African Nursing Council (SANC) 2023 circular is a confirmation of the South African Nursing Council’s fees and fines as stipulated in the Government Gazette published on 27 May 2022.

These Nurses can pay SANC fees:

  • Registered Nurses and Midwives
  • Enrolled Nurses and Midwives
  • Enrolled Nursing Auxiliaries

The annual fees 2023 have been grouped into different categories for practitioners as in the table

REDUCTIONS IN ANNUAL FEES FOR AGE 60 AND OVER

The Council plans to reduce the fees. The reduced fees apply to nurses that are 60 years of age and over as per the table below:

60 TO 64 YEARS OF AGE ON 1 JANUARY 2023 (25% RE)

NB: To qualify for the discount amounts, practitioners may be required to submit a certified copy of their identity document in order to confirm their age.

Notes:

  • SANC must receive the annual fees for 2023 before the end of the year.
  • 15% VAT included.

 

SANC RESTORATION FEES

The 2023 restoration fees for different categories are shown in the following table. These fees apply from 1 January 2023.

Notes:

The reduced restoration fee only applies to a practitioner:

  • Who must have been removed from the register at his/her own request; or
  • Who must be 60 years of age or older on 1 January 2023. The Council must confirm that you can pay the reduced amount.

VOLUNTARY REMOVAL

Any Nurse Practitioner who is unemployed and wishes that his/her name be removed from the register must complete the relevant SANC form.

On approval of the removal request, the nurse practitioner’s name will be removed accordingly on the 31st of December of the year in which the application is received and the Individual will not be able to pay the annual fees.

IF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER REQUIRES REINSTATEMENT ONTO THE REGISTER, HE/SHE WILL, IN ADDITION TO PAYING THE REDUCED RESTORATION FEE, BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A RESTORATION FORM WHICH CAN BE ACCESSED FROM THE SANC WEBSITE, WWW.SANC.CO.ZA. IT MUST BE NOTED THAT PRACTISING WHILE NOT BEING REGISTERED IS ILLEGAL.

SANC ANNUAL FEES CLOSING DATE FOR PAYMENTS

2023 Annual fees payments closes on December 31, 2022Payments made after the closing date may not be considered. Therefore do not wait till it’s almost the closing date to avoid problems associated with making payments at year end.

Note that non-FNB bank transactions may take up to 3 working days to complete and therefore we encourage that you pay well in advance before the stated deadline.

OTHER FEES

Payment of these fees and other fees by institutions takes effect from 01 January 2023 till the stipulated deadline.

 

PERSAL DEDUCTIONS

THE SIGNING OF RESOLUTION 3 OF 2019 IN SEPTEMBER 2019 BY THE NATIONAL DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TOGETHER WITH MAJOR TRADE UNIONS IN PUBLIC HEALTH AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SECTORAL BARGAINING COUNCIL (PHSDSBC), BROUGHT INTO EFFECT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PERSAL DEDUCTIONS FROM THE 2020 APC SEASON FOR ALL EMPLOYEES FALLING UNDER THE SCOPE OF THE PHSDSBC.

This agreement has affected many Nurse Practitioners, affected Nurse Practitioners will not have to pay the annual fees on their own as the employers are required to pay on their behalf.

 

eREGISTER

The SANC eRegister portal helps employers verify the registration status of all Nurse Practitiioners in their employment list. This portal is also useful in the absence of the physical Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).

COMMUNITY SERVICE PRACTITIONERS

Community Service Practitioners are not eligible to be issued with an APC. Therefore they cannot pay annual fees.

 

However, to be a registered Nurse Practitioners as Community Service Practitioners you MUST pay a conversion fee on completion of their Community Service using the REGFPRA registration fee code instead of ANLFEES (e.g. 12345678REGFPRA).
