NSFAS Wallet account -How to use the wallet

My NSFAS Wallet financial scheme  helps in funding students at certain tertiary institutions ,   National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides students with a wallet to enable them to withdraw cash or spend at any merchant registered by NSFAS

NSFAS-Funded students who qualify to receive allowances directly from NSFAS therefore they  will receive cash funds in their NSFAS Wallets.

HOW TO GET AN NSFAS WALLET

To receive NSFAS Allowances through NSFAS Wallet students will need the following:

  • Your own cell phone and valid SIM card
  • You must sign your NSFAS Bursary Agreement if you are a new student to NSFAS
  • You will not need to withdraw cash to pay your landlord or any registered merchant.

If you need further assistance or if your NSFAS wallet is locked send an email with their queries to walletquery@nsfas.org.za.

The following information must be provided in the email:

  • ID Number
  • Full names and surname
  • Cellphone number and email address
  • Physical and or postal address
  • Description of your query

HOW TO CHECK YOUR NSFAS WALLET BALANCE

There are two ways to check the balance in your NSFAS wallet. Check using your cell phone or over the internet.

1 On your cellphone:

  1. Dial USSD code *134*176#
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click Send
  4. Select option 2. Query
  5. View cash balance and transactions

2 On the internet:

  1. Enter the following link in to your browser https://celbux.appspot.com
  2. Log into your account by typing in your cellphone number and password and click the Login button
  3. Click More
  4. Click Transactions
  5. View transaction

TRANSFER MONEY FROM MY NSFAS WALLET TO A LOCAL BANK ACCOUNT?

If you want to withdraw cash at participating stores, create a cash voucher (see below for steps) and withdraw the cash at Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, SPAR, Choppies or Boxer.

Note that these stores have daily cash withdrawal limits from R200 to R1000 per day.

On your cellphone:

  1. Dial the short code *120*176#
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click Send
  4. Select option 1. Cash Voucher and click Send
  5. Enter the amount and click Send
  6. Your newly created voucher will be displayed

On the internet:

  1. Enter the following link in to your browser https://celbux.appspot.com
  2. Log into your account by typing in your cellphone number and password and click the Login button
  3. Click Pay
  4. Enter amount
  5. Click Done

What happens if you do not withdraw the total amount of the voucher? If you transacted with a cash voucher, your change will be added to your cash balance.

HOW TO BUY FROM A PARTICIPATING STORE WITH YOUR NSFAS WALLET?

If you want to buy (pay for) goods at participating stores, create a cash voucher (see below for steps) to pay for goods in-store at Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, SPAR, Choppies, Boxer, Van Schaiks, Nando’s, Romans Pizza, McDonalds, Burger King, Spur, Hungry Lion, Debonairs, Rocomamas and John Dorys, amongst others.

Spending at a registered store has no limit – you can spend up to the maximum value of your cash wallet.

On your cellphone:

  1. Dial *120*176#
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click send
  4. Select option 3. Vouchers
  5. Click Send
  6. Read the voucher number to the cashier

On the Internet:

  1. Enter the following link into your browser https://celbux.appspot.com
  2. Log into your account by typing in your cellphone number and password and click the Login button
  3. Select more/vouchers icon
  4. Select vouchers
  5. Read the voucher number to the cashier

PAYING AN INFORMAL TRADER USING THE WALLET

On your cellphone:

To make a payment to a merchant with a merchant code (which involves a cellphone to cellphone transaction) …

  1. Dial *120*176#
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select option 4
  4. Enter the Merchant Code
  5. Enter the Amount to Pay
  6. Click send
